Race description

There exist several races and creatures in the world of Ta-Lan. However only few of them are available for player characters. The following table shows some distinctions between them.

Drakkan
The Drakkan are a race of dragon humans. They are strong and a bit aggressive. Their wings are usable for short distance filghts.

Elves
The slender and tall elfs are recognised everywhere. They are gracious and arrogant in the eyes of the other races. They have a strong affinity for magic.

Lizardmen
Gracious and alien, that describes this bipedal lizardfolk best. They are very close to nature and seem to know the ways of the gods very good.

Hawkmen
Also known as the sky folk, there is know other civilized race that mastered the sky than the hawkmen.

Halflings
The little folk is infamous for it's stealthiness and hardiness. They make excellent scouts and thieves but tend to eat more then others.

Halfgiants
They are the last remnants of the real giants from ages ago. A halfgiant stands between 2 to 2.5 meters, dwarfing even the tall elves. They are extremely strong and powerful warriors, who rush like natural desasters over the battle-field.

Humans
The most versatile of all races is found absolutely everywhere. Many races prefer special locations and are seldom found anywhere but the humans have proven to be masters of survival settling everywhere possible. They have no known advantages or disadvantages, making them also very versatile in the choice of their profession and career paths.

Dwarfs
The stout folk or mountain men are tough like the ore they mine in their mountain ranges. They are tough fighters and dislike magic.

These show how much physical damage a character of the given race can sustain. If the hipoints shall drop to zero or below, the character is dead.

Strength
This is a measure of how much a character can carry. If the character becomes overloaded, he can't move greater distances anymore (which means he is unable to leave the current region).

Resistance
The Resistance is a percentile value which describes the chance of resisting poison, deseases, and some spells.

These two rows show how far a character can move or fly per day. Look at this table to calculate the number of regions your character can pass.

Templates

Templates further the distinction between characters by adding several benefits and thus making them unique even among the same race. Normally each player race starts with the template "mortal", which gives no benefits at all. This may change during the course of play.
Though, more templates exist, only two shall be described here: the werewolf and the vampire.

Werewolf

The werewolf is strong and tough. He is also healthier than others but is known to eat like a horse. In combat he ferocious and never flees.

Vampire

Vampires prey on the living and need no other food. They are stealthy and deadly opponents. It is also said that they can turn into bats.

You can switch a template only from mortal to another one and vice versa. You can never switch directly to another template, i.e. from werewolf to vampire.
